When Broken Sword finds out about Sky’s relationship with Flying Show, he has sex with Moon. However the sex is not seen because it is taking place beneath the red cover. Sex is therefore implied only through sound which leaves the sex up to the viewers imagination. Even though these actions have not taken place it helps to introduce the viewer to the characters. In order for the film to tell this story in this fashion, it must first familiarize us with Broken Sword and Flying Snow. For example, we learn through this imaginary story that Broken Sword and Flying Snow came to the Calligraphy School to enhance their Sword fighting. As in fighting, calligraphy takes total concentration of the mind. When the school gets attacked by the Qin army, Broken Sword stays inside writing, while outside Nameless and Flying Snow battle with the oncoming arrows. When Broken Sword writes on the sand, we hear the stick as it goes through the sand. The sound is more loud than the arrows that enter the room. This also shows the essence of their culture. No matter what happens, nothing can stop them from doing what they came there to do.
